The Nokia 2300 was an entry-level phone with a 1.8-inch monochrome display, a numeric keypad, and basic features such as making and receiving calls as well as sending and receiving text messages. The phone also supported Xpress-on interchangeable covers and had built-in polyphonic ring tones, an alarm clock, a calculator, an FM radio, and three games. It was designed to be a durable and reliable phone and resistant to drops and water. It also has a long battery life and was considered by Nokia to be “a good choice for people who needed a phone that could stay charged for long periods of time.” It was launched at events in Moscow, Russia, and New Delhi, India. It was initially available in Asia Pacific markets during the fourth quarter of 2003, and subsequently in Europe, Africa and the Middle East during the first quarter of 2004. Nokia stated that it was specifically targeting “young-minded, fun-loving people in new growth markets such as China, India and Russia” with the Nokia 2300. When the phone was launched it had a suggested retail price of EUR 79.
