The Vodafone 527 Rainbow Series was available in a range of bright colours and was part of the company’s “Catwalk Collection”. It was manufactured by Sagem. Although there was initially some resistance to brightly coloured devices within the Vodafone Group because of fears about managing increased inventory levels, sales were very strong. A previous version of this phone sold over 1 million units in the UK alone and it also sold well in Germany. Although the Rainbow Series devices were primarily aimed at emerging markets such as India, Turkey and Africa, Vodafone was keen to point out that they would also be sold in core markets such as Germany and the UK.
