This unusual mobile phone is the second iteration of the Opis 60’s GSM (2G) rotary dial phone.
The product was conceived in 2012 and this second-generation version (included in the Mobile Phone Museum collection) uses an upgraded mobile phone chipset and a new main processor based on ARM’s Core M0+.
The new processor allowed the company to offer a key-based version of the product, the
PushMeFon mobile, and the ability to add additional functionality for the elderly and users suffering with dementia. This made it possible to reduce the phone’s functionality allowing the phone to automatically dial a pre-defined number whenever a user picks up the receiver (irrespective of rotary dial input) - thus preventing a common problem of people with dementia dialling random numbers or dialling the police when trying to call someone else.
The company has plans for further products in the future including a 4G/LTE version of the Opis 60s mobile.
