The Doro 8035 (Model: DSB-017) was unveiled at Mobile World Congress in 2018 as a versatile entry into the "senior-friendly" smartphone market. Doro’s strategy with this model was unique: it offered two different user interfaces in one device, allowing users to choose between a highly simplified "feature phone-like" experience and a more traditional Android environment. At the heart of the 8035 was "EVA" (Enactive, Visual, and Adaptive), Doro’s proprietary interface designed to guide users through tasks using verbs like "Send," "View," or "Call," rather than forcing them to navigate through abstract app icons. This was built on top of Android 7.1 (Nougat), ensuring that despite the simplified front-end, the phone remained compatible with services like WhatsApp and Facebook. Physically, the DSB-0170 prioritised accessibility over the "edge-to-edge" screen trends of 2018. It featured a five-inch 720p display flanked by three large, tactile physical buttons for Back, Home, and Recents, providing the positive "click" feedback often missed by older users on standard touchscreens. The rear of the device housed Doro’s signature "Assistance Button," which, when pressed, would automatically alert a pre-defined list of emergency contacts and share the user’s GPS location.
