The Casio A3012CA was the first camera phone to be available on KDDI au’s network in Japan. KDDI had been reluctant to offer a camera phone, but the success of rival network J-Phone’s camera phones (including the
Sharp J-SH04) prompted KDDI to range a camera phone.
The A3012CA was designed for KDDI au’s CDMA2000 1X network and the first variant was offered in white (which is the colour of the model in the Mobile Phone Museum collection). Later it was offered in sky blue and then in silver.
It had a 260,000-colour 2-inch transflective TFD (Crystal Fine) liquid crystal display and supported polyphonic ringtones. The VGA camera was able to take 640 x 480 pixels.
