The BlackBerry 8820, was the company's first smartphone with integrated Wi-Fi. At 14mm thick it was also the thinnest BlackBerry the company had announced.
Although the device supported 2G EDGE technology rather than 3G, it also had built-in GPS.
Catering to a wider audience, the 8820 also incorporated a "new and powerful desktop media manager" which was provided via the "Roxio Media Manager for BlackBerry". This allowed users "to easily search for media files on their computer, view and organise them, create MP3 music files from CDs, add audio tags, create playlists and automatically copy or convert pictures, music and videos for optimal playback on the smartphone."
