Features

When it was launched, the BlackBerry 9720 was described as a “communications-centric super social BlackBerry”. The press release to announce the product claimed it had “the best keyboard and functionality for the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service”. Interestingly there were strong similarities to the keyboard design of the BlackBerry Q5. However, in contrast to the BlackBerry Q5, which used the new BlackBerry 10 operating system, the BlackBerry 9720 used an updated version of the BlackBerry 7 OS that added several enhancements. These included an updated user interface that allowed users to swipe to unlock the phone or access the camera from the lock screen. The phone also had a dedicated BBM key that made it quick and easy to access BlackBerry’s popular messaging service. Other features included BBM Voice, which allowed users to chat over Wi-Fi for free and there was a built-in FM radio.
