Storm 2 was masterminded by RIM’s co-CEO Mike Lazaridis, who saw the device as an opportunity to address the shortcomings of the disastrous
BlackBerry Storm.
It was designed to dramatically improve the clickable screen, something that had not worked particularly well on the first iteration of the previous iteration of the product.
The concept of the clickable touch screen was eventually abandoned during the development of a third iteration of the technology on device designed for US carrier AT&T. This was the result of AT&T specifically requesting that RIM abandoned the clickable screen technology in favour of a standard, non-clickable touch screen.
