The C1-02 offered what Nokia described as “affordable ways to connect” with a starting price of just €35. It was unveiled at an event in Nairobi, Kenya. At the same time, Nokia announced a Bicycle Charger Kit, which offered an alternative charging solution for people with limited access to electricity which overlapped with the target market for the C1-02. At the time of launch, Nokia claimed the C1-02 (and associated phones) had the longest standby time ever offered on one of its devices with a quoted performance time of six weeks. It was also Nokia's most affordable device to support microSD memory cards allowing users to store up to 32 GB of music and other media. It also offered web browsing over GPRS and access to Nokia web services such as Nokia Messaging.  It was announced at the same time as the Nokia C1-01 which included a built-in VGA camera allowing users to take photos and videos.
