When it was introduced, the C510 was Sony Ericsson’s most affordable Cyber-shot phone to date. By January 2009 Sony Ericsson had sold over 32 million Cyber-shot branded devices and it hoped the punchily priced new phone would help drive further growth.
The C510 Cyber-shot was a successor to the K510 and had a strong focus on photography features despite only featuring a 3.2-megapixel auto-focus camera. Most notable was smile detection (known as “Smile Shutter”) which detected a person’s smile and immediately took a photograph. It also included face detection technology for up to three faces at a time.
The phone had a sliding cover that had to be slightly depressed and then pushed to reveal the camera.
Although now a commonplace feature, the C510 also had auto-rotation which allowed users to switch from a portrait to a landscape view by rotating the phone.
