Rabbit was a telephony service offered in the UK and backed by Hong Kong based Hutchison.
The service was a hybrid home and pseudo-mobile offering. Users would typically purchase a this handset with a base station they could connect to their home (fixed) telephone system.
When users travelled beyond their home base station they could make outgoing calls within 100 metres of Rabbit “Telepoint” signs located in places such as railway station platforms and shopping malls. It was not possible to receive calls when away from home.
The service was shut down less than two years after launch.
