The Motorola ES400 was the first smartphone to support Microsoft's "Windows Embedded Handheld" platform which was based on Windows Mobile 6.5 but with additional management and security features. It was known as an EDA (short for Enterprise Digital Assistant).
The device had a 3-inch VGA resistive touchscreen and a built-in fingerprint reader. The 3-megapixel autofocus camera was optimised to be able to scan bar codes.
