Fairphone

The Fairphone 3 was an ethically produced, socially responsible phone introduced in 2019. This was the 3rd generation device released by the company whose mission was produce a more sustainable smartphone which was made with fairly sourced & recycled materials. The company's manufacturing also adhered to these values, offering a living wage bonus for factory workers. To build this phone it collaborated with final assembly partner Arima to improve employee satisfaction by improving worker representation and participation, health and safety and by paying a bonus to workers with the aim of bridging the gap between minimum and living wages in the factory. The Fairphone 3 was made with responsibly sourced and conflict-free tin and tungsten, recycled copper and plastics, and Fairtrade gold.  It was designed to deliver world-leading modular and repairable design and this was validated by iFixit who awarded Fairphone 3 (and its predecessor the Fairphone 2) a 10/10 repairability score - the only devices to have ever received full marks. When it was launched it had a retail price of €450.
