The FM-57D15A was a mobile phone developed by the Japanese company Mitsubishi Electric for use on first-generation NMT (Nordic Mobile Telephone) analogue mobile phone networks. The company referred to it as an “NMT Mobile Station”.
NMT was one of the early analogue cellular systems and was predominantly used in the Nordic countries, but also in other parts of Europe and a few further regions. This device was sold in Norway and it was one of the first approved NMT 450 phones in that country.
The phone could be used in a vehicle or as a transportable device by putting the radio unit into an “NMT Portable Case” (Type: FZ-122A).
The device in the Mobile Phone Museum collection appears to have been a test terminal and is labelled accordingly (see below).
