This variant of the Galaxy S was released by Verizon in the United States. Compared to the base model, it omitted the front camera and FM radio but added an LED flash to the back of the device. The decision by Verizon to change the default search engine from Google to Bing caused controversy as Microsoft was accused of paying Verizon to cripple the device. A news article from Engadget at the time called the decision "maddening" and "a deal breaker".  It was also known as the "Mesmerize" (US Cellular) or the "Showcase" (C Spire and Ntelos).
