The Asus Garminfone (also known as the Asus nuvifone A50) was exclusively available to T-Mobile in the USA and was the first Android-powered smartphone with a fully integrated Garmin premium navigation experience. At the time this was quite a unique capability as consumers were primarily using stand-alone Garmin personal navigation devices (PNDs) in their cars. Using a mobile phone for navigation was still a bit of a novelty, in stark contrast to its ubiquitous use on smartphones today.
The company claimed the Garminfone was able to deliver navigation capabilities “beyond what other smartphones and standalone navigation devices could provide.”

The onboard GPS capability also made it possible to geotag pictures taken on the phone’s three-megapixel camera.
Several Garmin travel applications such as dynamic, real-time traffic; weather local events, movie listings and gas/petrol prices were also pre-installed. The phone was also bundled with a dashboard mount and car charger providing buyers with an excellent out-of-the-box GPS navigation solution (see below).
