The Sony Ericsson K550 Cyber-shot phone was a successor to the Sony Ericsson K510.
The phone had a two-megapixel camera with auto-focus capability, an LED light and a sliding lens cover that activated the camera when it was opened.
The goal of the Sony Ericsson K550 was to 'broaden the appeal' of the Cyber-shot phones and it was designed to “broaden the appeal” of Sony’s Cyber-shot range of phones. The keypad on the K550 was similar to the
Sony Ericsson W880i.
The phone was initially offered in jet black and pearl white, however the phone in the Mobile Phone Collection is a purple variant released later in the product’s lifecycle.
Sony Ericsson also announced a variant of the K550, the K550im was the company’s first Cyber-shot phone to support NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode service giving users “access to a world of Internet content and email at the touch of a button.”
