The GD880 Mini was LG's flagship product announcement at the Mobile World Congress show held in Barcelona in 2010. It was one of the smallest, slimmest touch-screen devices to have been launched to date. It featured a 3.2-inch capacitive touch display.
At only 99 grams, the Mini, which had a metallic casing, offered an impressive and attractive piece of industrial design, particularly given the inclusion of 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS and a five-megapixel camera. As with its predecessor, the
LG Arena, the Mini used LG's proprietary S-Class interface.
At the launch event, LG announced plans to offer Mini owners a cloud-based synchronisation service called Air Sync. This allowed owners to store their favourite websites, wallpaper and photos online as well as access their contacts and calendar. This was the first time LG had branched out into the services space and was likely a competitive response to other phone makers, such as Motorola, who were also offering cloud-based sync services.
The phone also featured separate widgets to support access Facebook and Twitter.
