This handset resulted from a two-year development between LG Electronics and SavaJe Technologies. When announced, it meant that LG became the first company in the world to complete the development of a handset using SavaJe OS.
SavaJe OS was an open operating system for mobile phones, based on Sun Microsystems' Java technology. It was believed the flexibility offered by Java would make the platform attractive to operators offering easy customization based on a common software platform.
The handset was a slider design and had a 176x220 colour TFT display.
The SavaJe project
was abandoned approximately one year after the LG Savaje phone was announced.
