The E398 was initially exclusively available to T-Mobile’s customers across Europe. It was a music-centric device and was also known as “the MTV phone”. The box the phone came in displayed an “as seen on MTV” sticker. It was pre-loaded with exclusive music content from MTV. In addition, the phone included pre-loaded games, including Wakeboarding, and a fun MTV photo edit application.
The phone offered “3D stereo surround sound vibration sensory technology” and had a built-in MP3 player, MPEG 4 video playback “advanced rhythm lights” and dual stereo speakers.
However, the device is most famous for being the basis for the
Rokr E1, which was developed by Motorola in partnership with Apple and US carrier, Cingular.
