The Motorola Q9 was the second handset built on Motorola’s SCPL platform after the Motofone.  When Motorola first announced the SCPL platform, expectations started to build that it would lead to the introduction of a series of high-end multimedia devices. However, with the arrival of the Q9 it became apparent it was merely a “design language” for devices with sharper edges and angled ends. The Q9 used the Windows Mobile 6 platform and had corporate email capabilities via Good’s mobile messaging technology. The Good platform had been acquired by Motorola in November 2006. The Q9’s target market was the highly competitive enterprise devices segment. The Q9 was delivered much later than had been expected, having been promised a year earlier. It had limited success given its late arrival and the intense competition amongst qwerty-based devices at the time.
