Features

The 1600 was part of a range that Nokia called its Ultrabasic series. It was developed specifically for growth markets of China and India as well as targeting prepaid sales in mature markets. It went on to be one of the best-selling mobile phones of all time with sales of more than 130 million units. The phone was designed with a particular emphasis on ease-of-use, delivering a user interface with animated graphical icons and large font sizes to make navigation as simple as possible for first-time mobile phone users. The phone also featured a speaking clock and alarm, which announced the time in a range of languages. The 1600 also had a ringtone composer which allows owners to create their own ringtones. The device included a demo mode which delivered an on-screen visual guide to the main phone functions. The demo mode also allowed consumers to play the pre-installed games or hear the speaking clock without the need to insert a SIM card into the phone.
