When it was announced, the Nokia 6500 Fold was only available exclusively for T-Mobile International customers. It was customised to allow T-Mobile customers easy access to a wide range of its services such as web'n'walk, MyFaves, Mobile Jukebox and NaviGate.
The brushed-metal finish gave it a quality feel that was cold to the touch when compared to the many faux metal designs on other phones at the time.
The phone featured a 2.2-inch TFT QVGA colour screen that could display up to 16 million colours and it supported HSDPA fast-data connectivity.
The Nokia 6650 also came with a two-megapixel camera with flash, 30 MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot, FM radio and many other features.
The borders of the keypad backlight and the distinctive central 'oval' were customisable with a number of primary colours when idle, and could pulse and cycle through all the colours until a 'notification period' had expired.
Another distinctive feature of the phone was that it used a 1500mAh BP-4L battery. This was a dramatically larger battery capacity than featured in other comparable Nokia devices. This battery had been used in the much bulkier
Nokia E90 Communicator. It gave the 6500 Fold tremendous battery life.
