The C3 was Nokia's first Series 40 qwerty device. When it launched it had a highly competitive price of €90. The device supported EDGE and Wi-Fi connectivity and a two- megapixel camera. It was available in three colours; golden white, slate grey and hot pink.
The phone included a “Communities” client, which provided home-screen access to Facebook and Twitter, as well as comprehensive e-mail support which was designed to help Nokia compete with entry-level social networking phones.
The C3 underlined Nokia's significant scale advantages. Not only was the C3 the company's lowest-cost qwerty phone at the time, the inclusion of Wi-Fi on a €90 device set it apart from alternatives such as
LG's KS360 or Samsung's B3210 Corby/Genio.
The use of Series 40 on the C3 underlined the continued importance of the platform to Nokia. Although the company was pushing Symbian down into the mid-tier segment with devices such as the
Nokia 5230 —the hardware requirements of Symbian meant it could not be used on phones in substantially lower price tiers at that time so Series 40 was the only answer.
