The M200 was made for the One2One network by Siemens. When it first went on sale it cost £250 plus the monthly costs associated with a contract with the network.
It was given the nickname "The Dalek" by engineers at One2One because of issues associated with some early versions of the device that were prone to overheating.
Overheating typically occurred after a period of extended use and would result in the voice of the person who had been called sounding like
Davros, a character from the BBC's series Dr Who. The "life support chair" Davros used became the inspiration for the eventual design of the Dalek.
