The Optimus 2X was unveiled in South Korea in December 2010. It was the first smartphone to use a dual-core application processor, the Nvidia Tegra 2. It was also LG’s third Optimus branded Android smartphone.
The Optimus 2X was an example of LG's determination to shift the perception of its brand from entry-level smartphones such as the
Optimus One and feature phones like the
GD880 Mini to being a provider of the latest technology.
The Tegra 2 processor dramatically improved the performance of Android devices and enabled LG to offer full 1080p video capture and playback. The additional processing power also made it possible to share content via the HDMI port on the phone to a TV screen. Tegra 2 also offered the added advantage of supporting hardware-accelerated Adobe Flash, which enhanced Web browsing, and better graphics performance. This allowed console-like gaming on the Optimus 2X to look even better when the phone was connected to a TV screen.
The Optimus 2X, was also known as P990 Star.
