The One Touch 606 (also known as the One Touch CHAT or OT-606) was a qwerty side-slider phone that Alcatel designed specifically for users who liked sending text messages. It was offered with a “trendy design and bright colours” (cherry red, dazzle pink and silver) with a “unique look” that Alcatel thought would “certainly attract attention”.
Sending text messages had become extremely popular at the time and Alcatel felt that offering a device that meant consumers did not need “to choose between a traditional and a Qwerty keyboard” would get “the best of both worlds with the OT-606”. It also included a gallery of smileys so users could “illustrate their mood” with their messages.
Although the device's main focus was text messaging, users could also send emails. The phone also came with a suite of other capabilities including “all the usual functions and media tools you need for your social life, such as photos, video and music (MP3 player, FM radio, 3.5mm audio jack, micro SD card up to 8 GB).”
