The R600 was one of the last phones announced by Ericsson before the Sony Ericsson joint venture began.
It was available in two variants, Ice Blue (pictured) and Luminous Champagne. It had a simple greyscale screen that could display four lines of text and one further line with additional information such as the name of the menu being displayed. It also offered three different backlight colours (green, red and orange) and it was possible to assign different backlight colours to particular contacts in the address book.
The R600's biggest claim to fame was a brief appearance in the James Bond film Casino Royale. It is used in the opening sequence by Mollaka Danso, who is part of the Quantum organisation. Mollaka receives a message on the R600 while Bond is spying on him. Bond eventually retrieves the phone from Mollaka's backpack and reads a text message showing the code name "Ellipsis".
