The Siemens S4 was unveiled at the CeBIT trade show in Hannover, Germany in 1995. It was a single-band GSM phone supporting the 900MHz frequency.
It had an extendable antenna which improved its performance, but it needed to be fully extended and locked in place to work correctly. It was also possible to both receive and send SMS text messages.
Users could configure a personal greeting that would appear when the phone was switched. on.
Siemens also manufactured phones for Sony and the S4 was the basis for the
Sony CMD-X1000.
