This prototype Mobile Development Platform (MDP) device was made by Bsquare in partnership with Qualcomm to allow the development and testing of Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 processor.
The S4 (MSM8960) dual-core processor was the industry’s first fully integrated 4G LTE world mode/multimode modem, with full support for 4G/3G WWAN interfaces, including LTE, CDMA, GSM and 3G UMTS. It was designed for use in both smartphones and tablets.
The test device also had an Adreno 225 GPU which had graphics acceleration for user interface (UI) development, browsers, “console quality” gaming and navigation.
There were rear and front-facing cameras integrated into the device which were capable of 1080p recording, which was a major step forward in technology terms at the time.
There were also a host of other sensors that could be used to develop and test Android apps.
Another notable feature of this unit was that it supported HDMI output which meant that developers using the device could output the phone screen onto a larger external screen to showcase their development work and beta apps.
