The Yari was a mid-tier slider phone that supported gesture gaming. It featured a five-megapixel camera with Cyber-shot features and the latest Walkman player. It was categorised as one of Sony Ericsson’s “Entertainment Unlimited” devices. It also supported dual-band 3G HSDPA, quad-band EDGE and GPS.
Gesture gaming had proved popular in the Japanese market and Sony Ericsson exploited its knowledge in this area to extend the capability to a global audience.
Sony Ericsson used technology developed by GestureTek to deliver the tennis and fitness games included on the device. The Yari was supplied with a small folding stand to prop up the phone when using the gesture controls. The camera on the front of the device sensed movements associated with various activities such as squats and jumps.
