The BlackBerry Torch 9810 was an update to the
BlackBerry Torch 9800, however it did not offer many improvements beyond faster performance and enhancements to the colour, materials and finish of the device.
At the time, the combination of the hardware qwerty keyboard and a large touch screen was critical to RIM's future success but this next generation of the Torch 9800 failed to offer a thinner, sharper design more in line with the design language of theĀ
BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930, which were announced at the same time and had won plaudits for their appealing makeover.
The Torch 9810 reflected the delicate balancing act RIM had to perform as it shifted from BlackBerry 6 OS devices via the transitional BlackBerry 7 OS portfolio towards its QNX-powered smartphones, which appeared in the first half of 2012.
The phone was offered as a silver variant known as zinc grey which is included in the Mobile Phone Museum collection.
