This phone supported Push-to-Talk "walkie-talkie-like" features and was part of Motorola's efforts to try and defend its market position in Europe under great pressure from Nokia. At the time the V400p was launched in 2004, Motorola's market share in Europe had dropped to less than half its 2000 peak.
Motorola hoped that its experience with Push-to-Talk in the US through services such as the one offered by Nextel would give it a competitive advantage in Europe but it never took off.
