The Viewty Smart (model number: GC900) was a successor to the
LG Viewty. It featured the S-Class user interface that was first introduced on the
LG Arena.
The phone was designed to build on the success of the LG Viewty and had a number of upgraded features, including an eight-megapixel camera that was enhanced via an Intelligent Shot Mode.
Following extensive consumer preference surveys conducted by LG in 14 countries including the US, the UK, France, Brazil, Russia, India and China to learn what consumers wanted to see in future mobile phones, LG found that users thought camera phones at the time were too complicated.
Intelligent Shot Mode was designed to analyse the subject, background, and lighting conditions when a picture was taken. The phone then compared the data against seven pre-programmed scenarios to “take perfect pictures every time”.
Another notable feature was the user interface design enabling zoom in and out when taking a photo. Users could move their finger in a clockwise circle on the touch screen to zoom in, “as if turning the zoom ring on an SLR camera”. To zoom out the finger was moved in the opposite direction. The Mobile Phone Museum collection includes both black and silver variants.
