The Vodafone 546 was a low-cost qwerty phone for emerging markets.
It used the Opera Mini browser as part of an agreement Vodafone had made with Opera to offer a customised version of its low-bandwidth browser on a range of Vodafone devices aimed at developing markets.
At the time, Vodafone was betting that its low-cost own-brand devices would give many consumers in emerging markets their first taste of the Internet. This strategy was designed to further the network’s goal of increasing the attach rate of data subscriptions to devices across its mobile networks around the world.
