The Vodafone 710 was manufactured by China’s Huawei and was sold across Europe from early November 2006. When it announced the 710, Vodafone revealed that it would be the first in a series of own-brand consumer handsets.
The V710 was used by Vodafone to demonstrate to other manufacturers that they needed to offer considerably cheaper 3G products.
The arrival of the 710 coincided with Vodafone moving part of its mobile phone operations from Japan to Hong Kong to spearhead the sourcing of new devices to support its own-brand portfolio.
At the time the company said it expected to procure at least 200,000 units Vodafone-branded mobile phones in the first half of 2007. The device went on to sell more than 500,000 units.
