This phone was made by Mitsubishi for Vodafone's Japanese network (now Softbank) and was designed for a "young, active, fun male". The V401D was inspired by the
MS-06 Zahu 2 character and had "vibrant colours and an edgy shape." The designer was Eric Zhu.
It is reported this device had the industry's first touch-sensitive side panel to control the camera zoom and navigate through the phone's menu.
The phone came in three colours: Samurai Red, Cyber Green and Metal Silver.
