The Xperia T2 Ultra (Model numbers: D5303, D5316, D5322) featured a six-inch HD display and at launch was described by Sony as a “large screen smartphone for entertainment on-the-go”. The phone was specifically designed for customers in emerging markets in China, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific rim offering a mid-range device with “the best of Sony’s imaging and display technologies.” The phone included a 13-megapixel camera, and a new capability called the Sony “smart social camera system”. This allowed developers to create camera add-ons that extended the camera’s functionality. Smart social camera apps included: Portrait Retouch: Allowing the Xperia T2 Ultra to become a virtual mirror as well as making it possible for users to experiment with make-up effects before snapping the perfect self-portrait. Collage: Allowing users to drop images directly into creative photo collages by changing formats, layouts and backgrounds. Background defocus: Enabling the creation of bokeh effect images by separating foreground elements and blurring the background. Timeshift burst: Allowing users to take 31 photos within two seconds, both before and after the shutter was pressed. Users could then scroll through the pictures to select their favourite shot. Sweep Panorama: Making it possible to capture panorama pictures. Other third-party smart camera applications were available via Sony’s “Select app store” including apps for services such as Evernote and Sphere.
