The Xperia X2 was Sony Ericsson’s successor to the
Xperia X1. It was an update to the original design. In particular, the slide-out qwerty keyboard was much easier to open. It also featured an optical trackpad which was similar to the
BlackBerry Bold 9700.
As with the X1, it used Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system. New features included support for Adobe’s Flash via the Microsoft Internet Explorer Mobile and access to the Windows Marketplace for Mobile to download additional apps.
Like its predecessor, the X2 offered Sony Ericsson’s panel user interface with 14 pre-loaded panels. 16 further panels could be downloaded providing access to content and services including CNN, Google and Skype. Sony Ericsson also offered a new capability called SlideView giving users direct access to missed calls and new messages.
The phone had a 3.2-inch WVGA touch screen, an 8.1-megapixel camera, and TV-out support. It was a quad-band 3G-capable phone with support for the frequency bands required to use the phone on AT&T’s network in the US.
The X2 was the last Sony Ericsson phone to use the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system. It was replaced by the Android-powered
Xperia X10.
The phone was available in two colours: black or silver.
