Announced
28 November 2005

Features

The BlackBerry 8700f was designed for Orange France and was the first BlackBerry handheld that was compatible with Orange's EDGE network in France. It was later offered on Orange networks around the world. It used an Intel processor and delivered "significantly faster Web browsing, application performance and attachment viewing". Interestingly, BlackBerry stated that it incorporated "high-end phone features such as dedicated 'end,' 'send' and 'mute' keys", underlining its desire to position it as a main-stream mobile phone rather than just an email device for business users. It had "intelligent light auto-sensing technology" that adjusted the brightness of the screen and the keyboard "to optimize visibility in outdoor, indoor and dark environments". It was part of the “Electron” family of BlackBerry devices.
