The Sony CM-H355 was an evolution of the iconic Sony CMD-H333, affectionately known as the “Mars Bar” phone. It arrived two years later as a refined version. While it retained the exact same "Mars Bar" industrial design and mechanical earpiece, the internals were modernised. It was essentially a "Version 2.0" that fixed the shortcomings of the original. One of the most visible differences is the labelling of the one-touch dialling buttons. The CM-H333 had three dedicated buttons labelled A, B, and C at the bottom of the keypad. On the CM-H355, these are labelled as P1, P2 and P3. The phone offered four hours of standby time and 90 minutes of talk time. It featured a slightly improved green backlight for both the LCD screen and the keypad, making it easier to use in the dark than the earlier illumination on the H333. Sony claimed the phone had a "slim and stylish design" and delivered “powerful reception from advanced aerial technology”. Essentially, the CM-H355 was a more usable version of the same classic design, featuring better memory and slightly updated electronics.
