The Elle GlamPhone was developed in partnership with fashion brand and monthly fashion magazine Elle (owned by Hachette Filipacchi). It was a basic camera flip phone designed for users wanting a fashion-first handset. Initially, it was available in Europe and was promoted in the Christmas edition of Elle magazine. A US variant was released later.
The phone’s screen doubled as a mirror when not in use. It was sold in a perfume-style box and shipped with an Elle lanyard allowing owners to wear the phone around their neck. The phone also had a small external display.
The website promoting the phone (glamphone.com –
which is no longer available) was developed by Alcatel and its advertising agency in Paris to appeal to fashion-conscious female phone users “without being overly girlish, while conveying the quirky individuality of the Elle GlamPhone”.
