The Samsung Epix (model number: SGH-i907) was a 3G-capable Windows Mobile-based phone offered by US carrier AT&T. It is widely regarded as Samsung third generation BlackJack qwerty device coming after the
BlackJack II but did not continue that naming convention.
A major design change was the switch from a scroll wheel to an optical mouse for navigation which AT&T and Samsung claimed was the first time optical mouse technology was available on a phone sold in the US. The phone also had a built-in stylus to interact with the screen.
At the launch, Samsung America’s chief marketing officer, Bill Ogle, stated that “Samsung developed the phone with the business user in mind. Users who want a device that they can take on the road with them.” He went on to comment that the Epix allowed users to “never miss a beat at the office, stay in touch with colleagues and family and enjoy entertainment.”
The phone had built-in Wi-Fi that could use AT&T’s nationwide hotspots and included AT&T’s Navigator and Video Share apps.
