The N500iS was an evolution of the ultra-thin N412i. As with the N412i, it supported NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode service.

The N500iS added EDGE capability which enabled higher speed data transfer making services such as video streaming possible.

The phone also had an MP3 player with AAC support.
