The Oro (C7-00) was a luxury variant of the Nokia C7 that shipped approximately eight months after the original model. It was plated in 18-carat gold and Nokia described the gold finish as ensuring that the Oro “was as durable as it was desirable” making it “the epitome of luxury”. It claimed that every part of the Nokia Oro’s surface was “individually hand polished, one piece at a time” until it was “perfectly smooth” and then gold was applied “drop by drop in an intricate coating technique”. The phone had a rear cover which was “embossed and hand wrapped” with “Bridge of Weir” Scottish leather that provided “a timeless, tactile finish and luxurious feel”. The Oro also featured a sapphire crystal home button offering “a valuable combination of elegance and endurance that would retain its exquisite appearance far into the future”. At the time of launch the Oro, which cost approximate €800, was compared to devices from Nokia's luxury business unit, Vertu. Nokia shipped the Oro with the latest version of its Symbian operating system known as Anna. It was targeted at markets interested in luxury mobile phones such as China, the Middle East and Russia. Nokia's General Manager responsible for Russia at the time stated that the company had "a large number of users looking for products with a build quality and superior materials that attest to their success and social standing". The Oro also came with a brushed steel and 18 carat gold plated Bluetooth headset which the Mobile Phone Museum has in its collection.
