The P5i (Paris) slider smartphone is an unreleased successor to the
Sony Ericsson P1i. It sported the same qwerty keypad design, with rocking keys, as the P1i and
Sony Ericsson M600i.
The device was based on the Symbian operating system using the UIQ 3.3 user interface. It was also expected to have a capacitive touchscreen display. It would have been the last of the UIQ line of Sony Ericsson smartphones (which starting with the
P800).
The P5i was developed for two years in Warrington, UK (software development) and Kista, Sweden (hardware development). It was cancelled shortly before the
Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 was released in early 2008. Many of the employees who worked on the P5i project were subsequently made redundant.
The video below was an early demo video prepared to showcase the device to industry buyers including mobile operators and retailers.
