This miniature credit card sized device marked the revival of the iconic Palm brand in 2018. It was conceived by ex-Samsung and FrogDesign executives and backed by Chinese phone maker TCL who had bought the rights to the Palm brand from Hewlett-Packard in January 2015. The venture had nothing to do with the original Palm company that made the PalmPilot and webOS devices. It was hoped the revived brand would appeal to technology enthusiasts. One of the executives responsible for this tiny phone felt there was an opportunity amongst "a generation of people who [had] never experienced Palm". It was positioned as a "companion" device to someone's main smartphone allowing them to leave their "big phone" at home and take the tiny Palm tucked in a small pocket, around one's neck with the lanyard accessory or carried using an armband. The goal was to tap into a movement known as "digital detox". Initially it was offered exclusively with US carrier Verizon and cost $350. Later it was offered by other mobile operators around the world including Vodafone in the UK.
It was certainly an very cute device and generated a lot of interest when it was launched, but ultimately it was a commercial flop.
