The Cat S22 Flip was a ruggedised flip phone offered exclusively via T-Mobile in the USA.
Its rugged credentials were reflected in its IP68 and MIL-SPEC 810H ratings allowing it to be dropped up to six feet onto steel and remain waterproof in a depth of five feet for up to 35 minutes. The hinge mechanism was tested 150,000 times when the product was being developed. This aligned well with the messaging during the launch of the device that you use the Cat S22 Flip mechanism to ‘Snap it to End it’ which the manufacturer claimed would “give you confidence that when it is closed the call is over.”
As the device was announced around the time of the global COVID-19 pandemic it was partly marketed for its ability to be “washed regularly using the harshest of chemicals, bleaches and sanitizers helping to keep you and those around you safe from germs.”
It used a “lightweight” version of Android, known as the “Go Edition” which helped keep the device at a more affordable price point. It also had a programmable “push to talk” button on the side of the phone.
