The Samsung S500i (SGH-S500i) was announced to coincide with the launch of the i-mode service by UK mobile network operator, O2. It had strong similarities to the Samsung E720 and E730 phones.
It was a 2.5G (GPRS) tri-band GSM device and featured a 1.3-megapixel camera, stereo speakers and a 262,000 colour screen. It also had Bluetooth, 80Mb of internal memory and the ability to expand it further with the use of a TransFlash memory card.
It was considered to be one of the premium handsets in the range that O2 announced to support its i-mode launch. The multimedia focus of the device was reflected in the dedicated media keys on the front of the phone.
