Features

The Sendo X was a tri-band GPRS smartphone developed by Sendo Ltd announced in November 2003. It used the Symbian 6.1 operating system together with the Series 60 user interface (developed by Nokia) and incorporated the Opera mobile 6.2 Internet browser. The Sendo X was the smallest and lightest Symbian-based product available on the market. It incorporated a 65K TFT display and an integrated VGA camera with a 4X digital zoom. It also had a flash with red eye reduction which was the first time this feature was available in a phone. The Sendo X used a dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP processor with graphics capability and a fully digital RF section, from Silicon Labs. Both these key technologies had been developed by Sendo in collaboration with Texas Instruments and Silicon labs and accounted for the Sendo X’s small size and weight. A key innovation of the Sendo X was the “NOW” screen enabling users to have multiple home screens or panes where they could place different apps and customise the layout of the screen. It also allowed network operators to create completely customised screens incorporating all their services with no disruption to the way the user interface worked or the core software of the product. The Sendo X received very good reviews from the industry including winning “Best Smartphone of the Year” (2004) at the Mobile Choice Magazine awards. Attached to this entry is a product description for the Sendo X which was prepared by the product team in March 2003.
